Chapter 1 ” The Rainbow “

THE RAINBOW
Boats sail on the rivers,
And ships sail on the seas;
But clouds that sail across the sky
Are prettier far than these.
There are bridges on the rivers,
As pretty as you please,
But the bow that bridges heaven,
And overtops the trees,
And builds a road from earth to sky,
Is prettier far than these.
                          -Christina Georgina Rossetti

The Rainbow Poem Summary

This poem, The Rainbow by Christina Rossetti, beautifully compares man made things like boats, ships, and bridges with the natural beauty of clouds and rainbows. While boats sail on rivers and ships on seas, the poet finds clouds moving in the sky far more beautiful. Similarly, though bridges over rivers are charming, the rainbow which is described as a bridge connecting earth and sky is considered even more pleasing. The poem highlights the superiority of nature’s wonders over our creations, celebrating the breathtaking beauty of the rainbow.
