I recently read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. The story is about a young boy named Tom who loves adventure. One evening Tom goes on a treasure hunt along with his friend Huck in a haunted house. Huck was afraid of ghosts, but Tom assured him they wouldn’t stay long.

They started digging inside the house with a pickaxe and a spade. Suddenly, they heard voices outside and quickly hid upstairs. Through a hole in the floor, they saw two men enter one of them was a thief named Joe. The men noticed the tools left behind by Tom and Huck and started digging in the same spot. After digging for a while, Joe’s spade hit a buried box full of gold coins.

As the thieves realized someone might be hiding, they went upstairs. Just then, the old staircase collapsed and stopped them. The thieves then took the treasure and left the haunted house. Tom and Huck regretted missing the gold. Still, Tom was hopeful and was thinking of searching for treasure in another haunted house.
