Ans : According to Mandela, the oppressor must be liberated just as surely as the oppressed, the oppressor is a prisoner of hatred, prejudice and narrow mind. Both the oppressor and the oppressed alike are robbed of their humanity.

Q. What does courage mean to Mandela ?

Ans : According to Mandela, courage is not the absense of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid but he who conquers that fear.

Q. How does Mandela describe the systems of government in his country in the final decade of the twentieth century ?

Ans : Mandela describes the system of government in his country in the final decade of the twentieth century as one that recognised the rights and freedom of all people regardless of the colour of their skin.

Ans : According to Mandela, the greatest wealth of his country is its people which are finer and truer than the purest diamonds.

Q. What is the viewpoint of Mandela about freedom ?

Ans : According to Mandela, freedom is indivisible. The chains on anyone of his people were the chains on all of them, the chains on all of his people were the chains on him.

Ans : The desire for the freedom of his people to live their life with dignity and self respect that changed Mandela as a young man into a bold one.

Q. How did Mandela’s hunger for freedom change his life ?

Ans : Mandela’s hunger for freedom changed him from a frightened young man to a bold one, from a low-abiding attorney to a criminal, from a family-loving husband to a man without a home and a life loving man to a monk. Thus the hunger for freedom transformed Mandela into a self-sacrificing man.

Q. What does Mandela mean when he says he is “simply the sum of all those African patriots” who had gone before him ?

Ans : Mandela wanted to pay his tribute to all the people who had sacrificed their lives for the sake of freedom. He felt that he was the sum of all those African patriots who had gone before him because these heroes had proved the way of co-operation and unity for him. Therefore he got the support of his people to be able to come to power and bring equality for his own people.

Q. What mission would Mandela like to achieve for the future of South Africa and his people on securing the political emancipation ?

Ans : On securing the political emancipation Mandela would like to achieve some missions for the future of South Africa. He would want to liberate all its people from the continuing bondage of poverty, deprivation, suffering, gender and other discrimination. His land would never again experience the oppression of one by another.

Q. What problems hinder each man to fulfill their obligations in South Africa ?

Ans : Whenever a native South African tries to fulfill his duty to his people, he is ripped from his family and forced to live a life apart. He is isolated even if he tries to live as a human being. So it is very difficult in South-Africa to fulfill their obligations.

Q. What pledge did the leaders make that day of Chapter Nelson Mandela?

Ans : The leaders pledged to liberate all their people from the continuing bondage of poverty, deprivation, suffering, gender and other discrimination.

Never, never and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another.

The sun shall never set on so glorious a human achievement.

Ans : The highest generals attitude had changed they saluted Mandela and pledged their loyalty to their new president because on that day, Mandela was their president so, their duty was to respect their president. That is why their attitude had changed on the spot.
