1. How did the invisible man first become visible ?

Ans : After many experiments Griffin carried out that the human body could become invisible. After that he swallowed some certain rare drugs and become transparent like a sheet of glass. So, he always stayed without clothes not to being seen.

The time was mid-winter so the air was bitterly cold. For this reason, he could not stay without clothes. So, he entered a big London store at the closing time. He had entered there for pleasure of clothing and feeding. There he broke the boxes and the wrappers. From them, he wore warm clothes, shoes, an overcoat and a wide brimmed hat. Thus he become a fully dressed and visible person for the first time.

2. Why was he wandering the streets ?

Ans : Griffin was a brilliant scientist but he was rather a lawless person. His landlord did not like him and tried to eject him. So, he set fire to the house to take revenge. After that, he had to remove his clothes to get away without being seen. Thus, he become a homeless wanderer without clothes, without money and quite invisible.

3. Why does Mrs. Hall find the scientist eccentric ?

Ans : Griffin went to the village of Iping by a train to get away from the crowded London. He booked two rooms at the local inn. It was unusual to see the arrival of a stranger in winter. People were surprised to see Griffin’s uncommon appearance. But Mrs. Hall tried friendly with Griffin. Instead, he expressed no desire to talk and he informed that his reason for coming there was only for solitude. So, he did not want anybody to disturb his work. He also said that an accident affected his face. All this convinced Mrs. Hall to think Griffin to be eccentric.

4. What curious episode occurs in the study ?

Ans : One day very early in the morning, a clergyman and his wife were awakened by noises in the study. For searching they went downstairs. They heard the clink of money being taken from the clergyman’s desk. Then the clergyman flung open the door but the room was empty. He and his wife looked under the desk, behind the curtains and under the chimney. But they could not find any sign. Yet they got the desk opened and the housekeeping money was missing. The helpless clergyman simply said the rest of the day that that was an ” Extraordinary affair.”

5. What other extraordinary things happen at the inn ?

Ans : One day in the early morning, the landlord and his wife were surprised to see the scientist’s door wide open but it often remained closed. Out of curiosity they entered his room. They saw that his clothes and bandages were laying in the room. Suddenly they heard a sniff close to their ear. Later they saw that the hat on the bed post leapt up and hit her face. Then the bedroom chair sprang into the air. It charged at her legs foremost. When they turned away in terror, the extraordinary chair pushed them both out of the room and then appeared to slam and lock the door after them. Mrs. Hall almost fell down the stairs. 

6. Who was Griffin ? How did he become invisible ? Why did he become a homeless wanderer ? (HSLC 2021)

Ans : griffin was a brilliant but a lawless scientist.

7. Give a brief description of Griffin’s experience in Drury Lane ?

Ans : After Griffin had escaped from the big London store, he found himself invisible but naked in the chilly January air. This time he decided to go to Drury Lane in the hope of finding not only clothes but also shelter. He found a suitable shop there. He went upstairs and came out wearing bandages round his forehead. He also wore dark glasses, false nose, big bushy side whiskers and a large hat to escape without being seen. He attacked the shopkeeper from behind and robbed all the money he could find. This was Griffin’s experience in Drury Lane.
